In short
- Coles Group advertises its jobs on its own careers site, colescareers.com.au.
- If there’s no store job near you, Coles asks you to submit an Expression of Interest and waits until a role matches your details.
- Supermarket and Liquor team member applications include a short online assessment.
- Store team member interviews are held in the store, with the manager and up to three other candidates.
- OzWorkly is independent. We don’t recruit for Coles and can’t pass on your application.
Where do you find Coles jobs?
You search by keyword and location on the Search and apply page, open the ad and apply from there.
What Coles says (FAQ page, checked 15 October 2026): “For many roles, you can apply directly from the job ad.” For store team member jobs, if you can’t find a role, it says to submit the Team Member Expression of Interest and “You’ll be emailed when a role that matches your preferences becomes available, so you can apply.”
The same FAQ asks you to use “an email address that only you use”, and the same one each time. Two addresses can mean two profiles, and a shared address can merge your profile with someone else’s.
Our tip: if you share an email with family, set up one just for job hunting before you start, and write down which address you used.
What kinds of work does Coles hire for?
For a first job or shift work, start with Coles’ Store Teams page.
In stores
What Coles says (Store Teams page, checked 15 October 2026): the store roles listed are Supermarket Team Member, Liquor opportunities, Operations Leadership, Baker, Store Cleaning & Trolley Collection and Customer Service Agents (CSA). Its FAQ says team members help keep stores running by “serving customers, stocking shelves, baking fresh goods, collecting trolleys, and so much more.”
Our guides cover the two biggest entry routes in more detail: the Coles supermarket team member role, and Coles cleaning and trolley collection. If you’ve never worked in a shop, our general guide to retail assistant work explains the basics.
Online orders
Online orders are packed either in stores, where Customer Service Agents pick, pack and deliver them, or in Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs), automated sites built for picking and packing online orders. Read our guide to working at a Coles Customer Fulfilment Centre for the sites Coles names and how hiring works there.
Distribution, manufacturing and corporate
The Distribution & Manufacturing page covers distribution centres and Coles’ own milk, convenience and meat production. Corporate roles have their own page. We don’t cover these yet, but our guide to warehouse work in Australia explains the basics of warehouse jobs.
How does the store application process work?
Coles’ Our Recruitment Process page has separate processes for store team members, store leadership and corporate roles. Here is the store team member one.
What Coles says (Our Recruitment Process page, checked 15 October 2026):
- Apply for a listed job, or “if there are no jobs in your area complete our Expression of Interest”.
- Walkaround interview: “If shortlisted, you will be invited to an onsite walkaround interview with up to 3 other candidates.”
- Working rights verification: proof of identity and, “if required, qualifications, medical assesment, police checks and/or drivers license” (Coles’ spelling).
- Offer and onboarding, including “bank, superannuation and taxation details”.
- First day: your line manager contacts you with the arrangements.
The Store Teams page adds that Supermarket and Liquor team member applications include “a short online assessment”. Coles says it takes “around 10 minutes”, needs no preparation, and the link in your email stays valid for 48 hours. A finished one stays valid for 6 months.
Our tip: do the assessment straight after the application form, in one sitting, as Coles suggests. If you stop halfway, the only way back in is the link in your email, not your candidate profile.
How does the Expression of Interest work?
With an Expression of Interest (EOI), you give your details, preferences and availability once, and Coles contacts you when a store role matches.
What Coles says: to improve your “matchability”, it suggests you “consider each question carefully and include the broadest preferences based on what is relevant for you” (Our Recruitment Process page). On timing, the FAQ says it “could be weeks, months or in some locations longer”.
So an EOI is a slow route. Keep applying to listed jobs while it runs in the background.
Who can apply?
What Coles says (FAQ page, checked 15 October 2026): “Generally, you will need to be at least 15 years of age to apply for employment with Coles.” For Coles Services (cleaning and trolley collection) it is generally 16, and “For Liquor and distribution jobs, you will need to be at least 18 years of age.” It also says “all team members who are employed must have the right to work in Australia”, and lists the documents you may upload, such as a passport, or a birth certificate or citizenship certificate with photo ID.
Coles’ pages don’t say how visa work conditions are treated. If you’re on a visa, check your conditions and ask the recruiter. We can’t give migration advice.
What should you prepare before applying?
- Your weekly availability, day by day. Coles says store shifts run “across mornings, evenings, and weekends”, and the EOI asks for availability.
- One email address you only use yourself, and a phone you answer.
- Your ID and working rights documents, ready for when Coles asks. Don’t send them before then.
- A resume if you have one. Coles’ My First Job page says store team members don’t need one to apply, but our retail resume example helps if an ad asks for it.
- Two short stories about serving people and working with others, for the walkaround interview. Our retail interview practice guide shows how to build them.
Our tip: keep a simple record of where and when you applied, and whether it was a listed job or the EOI. Our job application tracker is built for this.
