A role guide explains a type of work in general, not at one employer. It covers what the job involves day to day, where it happens and which skills employers ask for in their ads. The facts come from official sources such as the Australian Government’s Your Career site, with the date we checked them.
Read a role guide when you’re deciding whether a job suits you, or when you’ve never done the work and aren’t sure what to put on a resume. It includes an exercise or a checklist you can do in a few minutes, so you finish with something written down.
Role guides and employer guides
Employers describe the same job in their own words and set their own requirements. A role guide tells you what is common across the occupation. For what a particular employer asks for, read its own ad and our guide to that employer, if we have one. Role guides link to those pages where they exist.
Role guides are general information, not career advice, and reading one doesn’t guarantee you a job. See our editorial policy for how we separate facts from our own tips.
